Women's soccer in Japan has been losing steam for years, but a few schools are keeping the sport alive—and things might be starting to turn around. Nozomi Onda is seriously talented. She played for a boys' soccer club in middle school and frankly thinks girls' soccer is beneath her skill level. She only gets fired up when facing opponents she actually respects. On the flip side, Sumire Suou is a rising star with incredible ability, but her current team just can't match her pace. When Onda gets persuaded by her old coach to join the girls' team at Warabi Seinan High School, she ends up crossing paths with Suou—who shows up alongside her best friend and rival, Midori Soshizaki. Playing together, both girls finally get to push themselves to their limits. As they and their teammates work toward victory, they might just help bring women's soccer back into the light.
