Neku Sakuraba is just another guy walking through Shibuya when two black pins suddenly let him read minds and see "Noise"—weird monsters that can literally erase people from existence. Before he can even process what's happening, he finds out he's stuck in the city and forced into some kind of game. Fail the missions, and he gets erased. While fighting off one of these creatures, a girl named Shiki shows up and suggests they team up. She explains they're both "Players" now, trapped in something called the "Reaper's Game"—a seven-day event where they get a new mission each day, and losing means getting wiped out. Over the next week, Neku and Shiki meet other Players and Reapers, battle increasingly dangerous Noise, and slowly uncover what's really going on behind all of this.
