Synopsis

Natsuko Hirose jumps straight into animation after high school, and her skills develop fast enough that she becomes a director almost immediately. Her debut anime is a massive hit—the kind that creates a whole cultural moment—and suddenly she's being hailed as a genius in the making. Her next gig should be straightforward: a romantic comedy movie about first love. Except there's one problem. Natsuko has never actually been in love, so she has no idea how to write about it. The storyboard stalls out completely because of it. While working one night, she passes out at her desk and wakes up inside the world of her favorite childhood anime movie: "A Tale of Perishing."
