Synopsis

Kaiji Itou's a lazy guy with nothing going for him, so when his coworker can't pay back a massive debt, the loan sharks naturally come after him instead. Desperate and broke, Kaiji gets offered a way out: board a fancy ship called the Espoir for one night, and supposedly all his debts disappear. Sounds easy enough, but it's actually a high-stakes gambling tournament. The catch is brutal—losers end up trapped in debt servitude for years. Kaiji has to stay sharp, pick the right people to trust, and make every decision count. And that's just the start. What follows is a series of increasingly dangerous gambles that'll push Kaiji to his absolute limit, forcing him to use every ounce of cunning and determination he's got just to stay alive.
