Synopsis

Kenshin's quiet life at the dojo gets turned upside down when his former commander is murdered, forcing him to confront the one promise he's sworn never to break—his vow not to kill. The culprit is Makoto Shishio, a brilliant assassin who claims to be the true successor to the Battousai name. Shishio's been plotting for ten years to overthrow the Meiji government and take control of Kyoto, and he's amassed a serious military force to make it happen. Now he's trying to recruit Aoshi Shinomori, a ruthless fighter and former leader of the Oniwaban Group, to his cause. As Kenshin pushes toward Kyoto, he passes through villages that the government's abandoned and left to Shishio's mercy. Determined to stop the country from descending back into war, he does something he never thought he'd do—he teams up with Hajime Saitou, his old enemy. Together, they're all that stands between Shishio and control of Japan, and the stakes have never been higher.
