Earth became uninhabitable in the 21st century, forcing humanity to evacuate to Planet Zi—home to the Zoids, metallic lifeforms native to that world. Centuries later, Zi itself began dying out. The survivors made the journey back to Earth, attempting to terraform the planet through a process called "Zi-Forming." The plan backfired spectacularly. Earth remained a wasteland, plagued by wild Zoids and violent weather patterns that made survival a constant struggle. Both the Empire and Republic factions began excavating Zoids from the planet's depths, racing to build up their militaries and gain an advantage over each other. The story follows Leo Conrad and Buzz Cunningham, second-generation Earth natives who cross paths with a girl named Sally Land when she escapes from Empire forces. This chance meeting sets everything in motion.
