A century ago, the Moon was obliterated in a catastrophic event that left Earth surrounded by 81 quintillion tons of debris. Thanks to advanced technology, the planet survived—and people have pretty much moved on. So when Haruka Amami, a teenage girl, auditions for something called the Idolmaster Project, she assumes she's signing up to become a singing idol. Wrong. She actually gets recruited to attend a secret academy run by the Mondenkind Agency, where she's forced to live alongside other girls chosen for a very different purpose: piloting iDOLs, giant robots built to intercept falling moon fragments before they crash to Earth. The catch? The people running Mondenkind aren't exactly trustworthy, and there's something off about these robots. From day one, Haruka senses something strange coming from her iDOL, a machine named Imber—something that feels almost like genuine emotion.
