In a devastated future Nerima, a photon energy disaster supposedly wiped out the area—though nobody's really sure what actually happened or how bad it was. All that remains is the photon research facility tower looming at the center of it all. Z-chan and Gre-chan live together in the Shutter District, a sprawling slum built right around the tower's base. Their home, Photon House, is basically a bunch of salvaged materials they've pieced together. The advanced photon energy that once powered everything is long gone now, replaced by Getter Rays that constantly bombard the world from space. Still, Z-chan and Gre-chan manage to harness enough of the old photon energy to keep their place running.
