Synopsis

Sterling North lives a quiet life in Brailsford Junction, Wisconsin, where he spends most of his time with animals. His mother's in the hospital, his brother's fighting overseas, and it's just him, his dad, and his dog Hauser at home. One weekend, Sterling and his friend Oscar take Hauser out fishing. When the dog picks up a scent near a tree, the boys dig up a raccoon's nest and find an orphaned kit inside—its mother had been killed by a hunter who wanted her fur. Sterling adopts the baby raccoon and names him Rascal. With his family falling apart and his world feeling unstable, Sterling finds comfort and strength in his relationship with Rascal. The mischievous raccoon becomes the anchor that holds him together through everything else.
