Synopsis

Two people living isolated, separate lives end up crossing paths. Nine-year-old Ren has lost the only person who ever showed him kindness, and his family has turned their back on him. Homeless and desperate, he flees into the streets of Shibuya, where he encounters Kumatetsu, a fearsome beast who takes him to Shibuten, a hidden realm of creatures. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement. Kumatetsu is a skilled fighter but socially cold—so cold that no one wants to train under him, which means he can't prove himself worthy of becoming the next lord of the realm. Ren, now renamed Kyuuta, needs a place to belong. So they strike a deal: Kumatetsu gets the disciple he needs to gain status, and Kyuuta gets a home and someone to care for him. Over the years, their relationship becomes something neither expected. What started as a transaction transforms into something deeper, as both of them realize they were filling a need in each other that went way beyond their original goals. The line between boy and beast—between human and other—starts to blur in ways that matter more than either of them thought possible.
