Synopsis

Strange creatures called Mushi exist beyond the rules of nature, responsible for countless bizarre phenomena in the world. Most people never know they're there, but those who do fear them. Centuries ago, a devastatingly powerful Mushi nearly wiped out all life. The Minai clan emerged from those who defeated it, and ever since they've been bound to serve the Karibusa family—the keepers of the sealed Mushi. When Tanyuu Karibusa asks the wandering Mushishi Ginko to check on Kumado Minai, the clan's current head, he finds himself investigating an eerie village where dead wood and abandoned houses are spontaneously coming back to life as plants. The Minai stand out even among Mushishi for their brutal methods and strange personality—they're all notably emotionless and indifferent to beauty. Tanyuu suspects there's a deeper reason for this pattern, and Ginko decides to find out. Following Kumado into a place called the "Path of Thorns," where Mushi seep into the world from unknown sources, Ginko encounters some of the rarest and most dangerous varieties. But more importantly, he uncovers the truth behind the Minai clan's unwavering commitment to their ancient duty.
