Most people go through a phase where they think they're special—different from everyone else. Some take it further, imagining they have magical powers or come from another world entirely. This phase has a name: chuunibyou, or eighth-grader syndrome. And yeah, it's usually pretty embarrassing to look back on. Yuuta Togashi still feels the sting of his own chuunibyou days. Back in middle school, he was the "Dark Flame Master"—and he'd rather forget it ever happened. The embarrassment is so bad that he deliberately enrolled in a high school across town, somewhere nobody knows about his cringey past. His plan was simple: start fresh and live a totally normal life. Except that's not what happens. Enter Rikka Takanashi, his new classmate and self-proclaimed host of the "Wicked Eye." She's as eccentric as they come, and her arrival basically nukes Yuuta's hopes of a quiet, chuunibyou-free existence. What follows is a funny and surprisingly touching story about a guy trying to escape his embarrassing past—only to discover that those old delusions aren't quite done with him yet.
