Synopsis

When Utena was a kid, her parents died. A mysterious prince found her crying and gave her a ring with a rose on it, telling her they were destined to meet again someday. The encounter stuck with her so much that she decided to become a prince herself. Years later, Utena's at Ootori Academy—which, conveniently, has the same rose emblem as her ring. One day she spots Anthy Himemiya, a girl tending to roses while two student council members, Touga and Saionji, bicker over her. Utena doesn't think much of it at first, but then the Student Council calls a meeting about something important. Before she knows it, Utena gets pulled into this whole thing about Duelists—people who have rings like hers. Turns out these Duelists are fighting to own Anthy, who's known as the Rose Bride and supposedly has some kind of power. Pissed off that Anthy's being treated like an object and wanting to prove herself as a prince, Utena decides to fight the other Duelists and free her from this messed-up situation.
