Guilty Crown
On December 24, 2029—a day now called the "Lost Christmas"—the Apocalypse Virus devastated Japan, killing thousands and throwing the country into complete chaos. The UN responded by sending in the GHQ, an international military force that contained the outbreak but also seized total control of the government. Ten years later, Japan still lives under their iron-fisted rule with no real freedom. Frustrated with how things have become, a resistance group called the Funeral Parlor decides to fight back. Their leader, Gai Tsutsugami, hatches a plan to steal a vial containing the "Void Genome"—something that could shift the balance of power. The vial ends up with Inori Yuzuriha, a popular internet singer who suddenly finds herself being hunted by the GHQ's forces. Desperate and on the run, she hides in an abandoned warehouse where she meets Shuu Ouma, an awkward high school student who happens to be obsessed with her music. When Shuu helps her escape, everything changes for him. The Void Genome vial breaks in his hands, and he's suddenly granted the "Power of the Kings"—an incredible ability he barely understands. Now caught up in the resistance's fight, Shuu has to master his new powers while helping to free Japan from GHQ's control.
