Subaru's always loved stargazing, so she's thrilled when she opens the door to her school's observation room one day—except it's not an observation room anymore. It's a massive indoor garden. She meets a mysterious boy named Minato there, who cryptically tells her to get out before disappearing. Things only get weirder when she chases after a strange blob-like creature that stole her compass, which leads her straight into a club room full of girls in witch costumes. Turns out her friend Aoi is part of this club. Despite Aoi's objections, Subaru jumps in to join. That's when things get really strange—the blob creature, apparently the club's "president" and something called a Pleiadian, gives Subaru a magical staff that looks like some kind of vehicle and transforms her. Turns out the club has been hunting for engine fragments from the Pleiadian's crashed spaceship so it can get home. Aoi, Itsuki, Hikaru, and Nanako have been at it for a while now, but Subaru quickly learns they're not the only ones searching for those fragments. Something—or someone else—is after them too.
