Gauche is a cellist who gets chewed out by his conductor during rehearsal—his timing's sloppy and he's missing the emotional core of the music. Back at his isolated cottage, he throws himself into practice, only to get a series of unexpected visitors. A clever cat shows up and basically tricks him into understanding what the music actually means. Then a cuckoo teaches him about discipline, a badger about rhythm, and a mouse about tenderness. Over the course of four days, everything clicks into place—he finally gets what the music is supposed to feel like, and transforms into someone genuinely talented.
