Synopsis

The Shaderan family is broke and desperate to climb back up. The baron and baroness are greedy and ruthless, willing to do anything to restore their status. They dote on their beautiful older daughter Anastasia, hoping to marry her off for money, while treating their younger daughter Marie like hired help. Years of this neglect have left Marie convinced she doesn't deserve love or kindness. Marie meets Count Kyros Granado at a party thrown ostensibly for her birthday—really just another chance to show off Anastasia. Kyros is instantly drawn to Marie, captivated by her personality and her knowledge of his culture. He thinks he's fallen for Anastasia and proposes by letter. When Anastasia dies in an accident on her way to the wedding, Marie is forced to take her sister's place as Kyros' fiancée—exactly what he'd wanted all along, though he doesn't know it. Despite her crippling self-doubt, Marie finds herself with someone who genuinely values her. Kyros patiently helps her see her own worth, teaching her what it actually means to be loved and showing her she's beautiful.
