Synopsis

Yukito Urabe grows up in his father's cult, believing the god Mitama will save him. During a ritual to make him the cult's next leader, he drowns—and in his final moments, desperately wishes to be reborn in a world without gods or religion. He wakes up in a completely different world that seems spiritually empty. There he meets Aruaru, an odd girl who welcomes him to her village. Things seem fine at first, until he witnesses a shocking public mass suicide and discovers the truth: the government can order any citizen to die whenever it wants. Soon after, Aruaru and her sister are taken away for execution. Yukito tries to save them but fails. Desperate and broken, he finds himself praying to Mitama using his father's old teachings—and a little girl literally falls from the sky, wiping out everyone who hurt his friends. When she introduces herself, Yukito's worst fear is confirmed: she's Mitama, the god he was trying to escape.
