Synopsis

After the massive coalition war ends, China is rebuilding. Qin won—but internally, things are messy. Ying Zheng and Lü Buwei are locked in a power struggle. Zheng's got popular support from his role in the war, but Lü isn't backing down. He's got a plan: disrupt Zheng's coming-of-age ceremony in eighteen months. Then a Zhao army of 20,000 marches toward Qin. The court's short on capable generals, so Lü craftily pushes Zheng to take command himself. It's a setup—but Zheng's half-brother Cheng Jiao volunteers instead. The two bonded during the coalition campaign, so Zheng trusts him enough to hand over the job. The Zhao forces barely last half a day before retreating. So that threat dies fast, but it's just a symptom of bigger problems. Zheng realizes he can only really count on two people: General Bi, who commands 30,000 troops, and Xin, who leads the Fei Xin force.
