Synopsis

The Medicine Seller is a mysterious occultist wandering feudal Japan who hunts down malevolent spirits called mononoke. But he can't just kill them outright—he has to uncover three things first: the spirit's Form, its Truth, and its Reason. Only then can he draw his Exorcism Sword and actually defeat it. Before any of that, though, he has to do the dangerous legwork: psychological analysis, investigation, getting up close with the spirit itself. It's a process that puts him in serious danger. His travels bring him to a rundown inn where Shino, a heavily pregnant woman, has managed to find shelter. The innkeeper's not thrilled about it, but reluctantly gives her the only room left. That room, as it turns out, is infested with a deadly swarm of mononoke called the Zashiki Warashi. The Medicine Seller's instincts kick in immediately. He's got to dig into their Form, Truth, and Reason fast—before these spirits claim another victim.
