Genbanojou
In a cone-shaped region called Kikyougahara in Shin Province lives a girl named Hana, a kindhearted kid who's devoted to her family—especially her great-grandmother Chiyo, who she calls Granny. When a traveling performance troupe led by Natsugawa Genzaemon rolls into town one day, the villagers are thrilled. After their show wraps up and the crowd showers them with praise, the troupe leader spots Hana holding some oyaki—his favorite snack—and gets so excited that he transforms into a fox right there. Turns out Genbanojou and his companions O-Natsu and Shinzaemon are all foxes living in human disguise. Genbanojou quickly makes a deal with Hana: if she keeps quiet about what they are, he'll grant her one wish. Without hesitation, she asks for something simple but meaningful: "I want my Granny to see the cherry blossoms."
