Infected Digimon—creatures acting completely feral and suddenly way more powerful—have started breaking into the real world. Maki Himekawa and Daigo Nishijima, who work for some shadowy government agency, are scrambling to figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, most of the Chosen Children are caught up in planning their high school's summer festival. Mimi Tachikawa just got back to Japan after years abroad in America, and she's struggling to fit in with everyone at school and among the other Chosen. At the same time, Jou Kido has basically buried himself in his studies as a way to completely ignore anything Digimon-related—which backfires when his partner Gomamon ditches him. Both of them are creating real tension in the group while infected Digimon keep threatening everyone. The question is whether they can work through their personal stuff fast enough to actually help the others when things get serious.
