Synopsis

Ryouma Echizen is one of 50 middle schoolers invited to Japan's U-17 tennis training camp—a program that's traditionally been exclusive to high schoolers. It's meant to prepare the nation's best young players for the U-17 World Cup. The high schoolers obviously aren't thrilled about sharing the camp with middle schoolers, but the younger players prove their worth by dominating the first matches before coaches step in and shut things down. Here's how the camp works: all players get sorted into one of 16 courts ranked by skill level, with Court 1 reserved for the strongest competitors. Every day before practice, "shuffle matches" determine who moves up or down. The middle schoolers are told to pair up with each other, but there's a catch—they're not actually playing doubles. Instead, each pair faces off in a tiebreaker. Win and you stay in the camp to keep training. Lose and you're going home. It's cutthroat stuff. Friendships don't mean much when your spot in the program is on the line, and as the rivalry between the middle and high schoolers heats up, things get way more complicated than just tennis.
