Synopsis

For 500 years, the Taboo Emperor Arthur Gaz ruled his empire with brutal force, conducting horrific experiments on his own people. Five years ago, a group of elite warriors known as the Eight Heroes finally brought him down in a decisive battle for the capital. His death ended a 300-year war between the Gaz Empire and an alliance of six nations. Cut to the present: Tooru Acura, a former saboteur, is struggling to adjust to peacetime. He can't find work that lets him use his combat skills, so he's stuck in limbo. Everything changes when he meets Chaika Trabant, a white-haired wizard carrying a coffin on her back. She's on a mission to collect her father's scattered remains so she can give him a proper burial, and she hires Tooru and his adoptive sister Akari to help. The problem? The six nations—now organized as the Council of Six Nations—send Albéric Gillette and his team from the Kleeman Agency to track Chaika down and arrest her. Turns out she's the late Emperor's daughter. So Tooru and Akari face an impossible choice: help Chaika piece together the remains of a tyrant, or protect the hard-won peace everyone's been trying to build.
