It's 1969 Tokyo, and things are booming—technology, industry, science, all of it. Life has never been better. But there's a problem nobody sees coming: mysterious invaders have slipped into society, and no one can tell who they are or what they even look like. Only a secret government agency called AEGIS knows the truth. They've been fighting these things in the shadows, but regular weapons don't work. The only way to actually stop an Invader is to open a "Gate"—a passage to another dimension. AEGIS has a special unit called the Gate Keepers made up of people who can do exactly that. These are the only ones standing between humanity and total annihilation. Shun Ukiya is just a normal high school kid living with his mom and little sister. One day on his way home, he spots a group of Invaders heading straight for his house. Desperate to protect his family, something awakens inside him—he can open a Gate. When he taps into it, massive amounts of energy flow through him. That's when AEGIS notices him. They want him in, and they send one of their best Gate Keepers to recruit him: Ruriko Ikusawa, who happens to be Shun's childhood friend.
