It's 2242, and humanity's scattered across a handful of bubble cities, hiding from toxic rain and dangerous creatures called Enders. The only thing keeping civilization alive is AO crystals—a new energy source that people called drifters risk their lives to collect, piloting tank-like mechs with help from combat androids known as magus. Kanata's training to become a drifter when he and his talented friend Tokio stumble across Noir, a magus who's been in stasis. She wakes up on her own, but she's got total amnesia and doesn't remember anything useful. Then an Ender attack happens, and Kanata finds out Noir is actually incredible at fighting. That's when they decide to team up—partly to figure out who Noir is, but also because Kanata's obsessed with finding Histoire, this legendary city that supposedly holds all the answers about the world.
