Synopsis

A masked samurai is on a killing spree across Japan, murdering members of the Genjibotaru—a gang of Buddhist statue thieves named after the servants of a famous historical samurai. Three victims in Tokyo, one in Osaka, one in Kyoto. With no clear motive and the gang's membership shrouded in mystery, the investigation stalls. Then a Kyoto temple reaches out to detective Kogorou Mouri with an anonymous puzzle that might lead them to a stolen statue. This gets Conan Edogawa and high school detective Heiji Hattori on the case. Hattori's got the added incentive of his childhood sweetheart being connected to Kyoto somehow. Using Hattori's knowledge of the city, the two start piecing things together as they explore Kyoto's streets. But the killer keeps moving—another gang member dies, Hattori narrowly escapes multiple assassination attempts, and then the killer abducts Hattori's childhood love. Now it's a race against time. Conan and Hattori have to uncover the masked samurai's true identity and motive before it's too late.
