Tokyo's expansion keeps pushing outward, and nature keeps getting pushed out. As the city grows, wildlife habitats shrink, and animal communities suffer the consequences. The Tanuki—magical shape-shifters who've made their home in the forest—find themselves facing an existential threat as urban development creeps closer. With nowhere left to hide and tensions rising between different Tanuki groups, the elder Oroku decides they need to fight back. He rallies the community around a plan: use their shapeshifting powers to sabotage construction projects and scare off the humans destroying their forest. United, they believe they actually have a shot. But things get complicated fast. What starts as a resistance movement becomes something messier and more painful.
