Japan's been carved up into four military zones since the end of the Boundary War, each controlled by a different foreign power using giant mecha called AMAIM. The occupation keeps the Japanese population under constant oppression, and these rival factions show no signs of backing down. Sixteen-year-old Amou Shiiba is an orphan with a secret—he's been quietly restoring an old AMAIM unit called Kenbu in hiding. Everything changes when he finds Gai, an AI that's running on empty and desperately needs a power source. The two decide to help each other out, but things immediately go wrong. An accident gets Amou branded a terrorist and forces him into exile. Rather than give up, though, Amou decides to actually fight back. What started as just wanting a normal life becomes something bigger—a mission to free Japan from foreign occupation. He hits the road with nothing but his restored mecha and his newfound AI partner, ready to take on whatever comes next.
