Synopsis

Yawara Inokuma is just a normal high school girl who wants to stay that way—she's dreaming of a quiet life with a cute boyfriend and zero drama. But she's cursed with an incredible natural talent for judo, which is pretty much the opposite of feminine or fashionable. Even worse, her grandfather Jigorou is a seventh dan judo master who's determined to turn her into Japan's next judo superstar in the '90s. To keep her normal life intact, Yawara keeps her skills under wraps. Of course, that doesn't always work out—she keeps getting dragged into situations where she has to use judo anyway. A sports reporter named Kousaku Matsuda, working at some struggling newspaper, spots her potential and becomes obsessed with exposing her talent to the world, no matter what it takes.
