Synopsis

Gerda and Kai have been inseparable since childhood—neighbors and best friends. Gerda's eleven, Kai's twelve. They were happy kids, the kind who worked and played like they were supposed to. Then everything fell apart when the Snow Queen's mirror shattered. Pieces of it scattered everywhere, each one filled with pure evil. If one of those shards got lodged in your eye, it would freeze your heart solid. One ended up in Kai's eye. After that, he became cold and distant to everyone around him. One night, the Snow Queen showed up in her carriage and whisked Kai away to her ice palace at the edge of the world. Back in the village, nobody could figure out where he'd gone. Most people assumed he'd drowned under the frozen lake. But Gerda wasn't convinced. She'd dreamed of watching Kai climb into that carriage, and when a drunk guy later confirmed he'd seen the same thing, she realized it might not have been a dream at all. She packed what little she had and set out on a mission to find Kai and bring him home.
