Synopsis

Takashi Natsume keeps busy returning spirit names from his grandmother's Book of Friends, with help from Madara—a powerful spirit he calls Nyanko—who mostly just tags along for the ride. One day on his way home from school, Takashi bumps into a spirit named Monmonbou who knew his grandmother Reiko. Curious about her past, he decides to visit the town where she grew up and ends up connecting with an old acquaintance of hers, Yorie Tsumura, and her son Mukuo. The more time he spends there, the more he learns about what his grandmother's life was actually like. Things get weird when Nyanko wanders off looking for food and finds a suspicious Spirit Seed. It grows into a fruit tree overnight, and despite the obvious red flags, Nyanko can't resist eating the fruit. Problem is, it splits him into three separate versions of himself. Now Takashi and his new friends have to figure out how to fix it, and in doing so, they stumble onto even stranger secrets lurking in the town.
