It's 1864 in Kyoto, and Chizuru Yukimura is desperately searching for her missing father, a doctor who vanished months ago. Disguising herself as a man, she heads into the city to track him down—but things go south fast. She stumbles onto ronin getting slaughtered by these deranged white-haired creatures, and when the Shinsengumi show up to clean up the mess, they capture her instead. Unsure whether to kill her or let her live, they haul her back to headquarters. Everything changes when she mentions her father's name. Turns out the Shinsengumi have been looking for him too, so they agree to keep her alive. But her father's connection to the group runs deeper than anyone initially admits, and Chizuru quickly finds herself caught in the middle of the Shinsengumi's conflicts with their enemies and the larger political chaos tearing through Kyoto.
