Synopsis

In the early 2000s, magic stopped being myth and became real technology—something you could actually learn and master. First High School is where future magicians train, and they've got a pretty harsh system: students are sorted by entrance exam scores into "Blooms" (top performers in the First Course) and "Weeds" (everyone else, stuck in the Second Course). The story centers on two siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, both attending First High. Miyuki aces the entrance exam and gets placed in the First Course as expected—she's genuinely talented. Tatsuya, though, bombs the practical test and lands in the Second Course as a "Weed." On paper, he looks like a complete washout at magic. Except he's not. Despite his terrible scores, Tatsuya has incredible technical knowledge of how magic actually works, he's a beast in hand-to-hand combat, and he's developed some seriously unconventional magic techniques. In a school obsessed with rankings and traditional ability, he's the anomaly—the irregular who doesn't fit the system no matter how you measure it.
