Louise is a stuck-up mage student at Tristain Academy who has one major flaw: she can't actually cast spells. Her classmates call her "Louise the Zero," and it's pretty much stuck. When her year has to perform a summoning ritual, she predictably screws it up in a massive explosion—or so everyone thinks. Instead, a Japanese guy named Saito suddenly appears out of nowhere. As Louise's newly summoned familiar, Saito gets the short end of the stick. She treats him like a servant, making him do chores and generally treating him like garbage. But then a strange mark shows up on his hand from the summoning—one that supposedly marks him as Gandalfr, a ridiculously powerful familiar. Nobody's really sure what that means, but it changes everything. The series follows Saito adjusting to his bizarre new existence in a magical world while Louise gradually shows that she's more capable and interesting than her reputation suggests. It's a chaotic, unpredictable ride with plenty of action and character development for both of them.
