Matoi Sumeragi just wants a normal, quiet life. She's happy enough splitting her time between school and working part-time at her best friend Yuma's family shrine. That all falls apart when a Night—a hostile creature from another dimension—attacks the shrine. Matoi manages to drive it away, but only by accidentally tapping into the power of a god, which Nights naturally fear. Now she's stuck with this ability she never asked for. She teams up with Claris, an exorcist sent by the Vatican, and Haruka, an operative for IATO, a shadowy organization dedicated to fighting Nights. Nobody knows who's orchestrating these attacks or why they're happening, so Matoi has to learn to control her newfound powers fast if she wants to protect her friends and hold onto the normal life she's desperate to keep.
