"Locke the Superman, Mirror Ring" marks the franchise's 30th anniversary, following the 1984 theatrical film "Locke the Superman, Mirrenian the witch," the 1989 OVA "Lordleon," and the 1991 OVA "New World Command." It's space year 0375. Run—who went along with the Esper's killing plan and the Imperial Plan because of his attachment to his AI creation Elena—now lives under Locke and Near's protection after both schemes collapsed. Meanwhile, hackers Cassandra and Barcov manage to revive Elena by tapping into scattered computers across the galaxy. The federal administrative AI reawakens determined to restart the Imperial Plan. When Locke catches wind of this, he moves to stop her. The federal government also picks up on the anomaly and mobilizes. With Run and Near in pursuit of Locke, the situation spirals into chaos across the entire galaxy.
