Synopsis

An off-duty JSDF officer named Youji Itami, who also happens to be an otaku, is heading to a doujin convention in Ginza when a massive gate suddenly materializes out of nowhere. Medieval soldiers and monsters pour through it, tearing through Tokyo and killing civilians left and right. Youji jumps into action saving people while the rest of the military tries to shut down the invasion. Fast forward three months. Youji gets assigned to lead a special reconnaissance team that's going through the gate into what everyone's now calling the "Special Region." The mission is straightforward enough on paper: scout the place out, learn what they're dealing with, and try to establish peaceful relations with the empire on the other side. If they pull it off, great—potential allies. If they screw it up, both worlds end up at war.
