After his grandfather and ninja mentor Saizou dies, Kabamaru gets taken in by an old woman named Ran Ookubo, who claims she has a letter from the old man asking her to look after the kid. So Kabamaru ditches his ninja village life and heads to Tokyo with her. Once there, he discovers city life—stuffing his face with yakisoba, ramen, and chow mein—and enrolls in a regular school. Of course, nothing about this new school is actually normal.
