Synopsis

A century and a half ago, demons freed Hinomoto from samurai rule. Now the people worship these mysterious liberators as gods, unaware of the truth: humanity is enslaved. Musashi knows better. While everyone else mines rocks to feed their supposed saviors, he's learned that demons are the real oppressors and the samurai are humanity's only hope. He keeps this to himself, drifting away from his childhood friend Kojirou as anxiety eats at him—until graduation day arrives. The new graduates' first shift at the mine is a shock. The working conditions are brutal, and the demon overseers are terrifying up close. Musashi barely survives it, saved only by Kojirou's quick thinking. When the demon in charge starts destroying the quarry in a rampage, the Takeda samurai clan pulls Musashi out of harm's way once more. Humiliated but alive, and hungry for something bigger than mining, Musashi decides right then: he's going to become a samurai and build a clan of his own.
