Space Dragon/Gaiking Earth faces invasion from the alien planet Zeraz, whose sun is being consumed by a black hole. Led by the ruthless Great Darius and his four generals, they've decided Earth is the perfect replacement home. When the aliens kill an ESP warrior, Professor Hi-Tech realizes how serious the threat is and gets to work building two things: the Daiku Maryuu, a massive dragon-shaped spacecraft piloted by Pete, and Gaiking, a giant robot piloted by Sanshiro Shiwobuki—a former baseball player. The Daiku Maryuu serves as a mobile carrier for Gaiking, with the robot's torso forming the dragon's head. When Gaiking launches into battle, the Daiku Maryuu breaks apart and fires off its components before reassembling around the robot, creating an unstoppable combined form. From this carrier, the crew wages their ongoing fight against Zeraz's forces to keep Earth from becoming a conquered world.
