Tsubasa Shiina is a shy 10-year-old who just moved to Hokkaido to live with her dad. At school she pretty much keeps to herself, but everything changes when she witnesses a UFO crash in the forest near her home. She finds the pilot—a being called D.D.—barely alive, along with a grotesque alien called a Maguar that's hatched from the wreckage. When the Maguar comes after her, an alien lifeform merges with Tsubasa and transforms her into the armored warrior Figure 17, which quickly destroys the threat. The lifeform adopts the name Hikaru and takes Tsubasa's exact appearance, becoming her identical twin sister. With Hikaru around, Tsubasa gradually opens up and becomes more social. But their troubles are far from over—Maguar eggs are scattered across Hokkaido, and the girls are the only ones who can form Figure 17 and hunt down the hatching aliens until reinforcements from D.D.'s planet arrive.
