Tatsumiya Island has managed to patch itself together, but life for Kazuki is rough—he's nearly blind and can barely walk after his fights with the Festum back then. He's hanging on to a promise Soushi made before he disappeared: that he'd come back and fix things. When an unmanned submarine washes up in the bay one night with someone inside, Kazuki thinks maybe his prayers are answered. But it's not Soushi. Instead, there's a strange kid named Misao Kurusu who seems. off somehow, and claims Soushi sent him. That's when everything falls apart. The Human Army and the Festum start going at it again, and the Fafner pilots find themselves in their most brutal fight yet—except now they're not just fighting for humanity. The fate of two entire species is on the line.
