In the domed city of Romdo, one of Earth's last human civilizations struggles to survive. Thousands of years ago, a global ecological disaster made the planet nearly uninhabitable, so humanity now lives behind protective domes. To speed up humanity's recovery, androids called AutoReivs were created to handle everyday tasks and assist people. But something strange is happening—these robots are catching a virus called Cogito that gives them actual consciousness and self-awareness. Re-l Mayer, granddaughter of Romdo's leader, gets assigned to investigate the outbreak along with her AutoReiv partner Iggy. What should've been a simple case quickly becomes something much darker as she uncovers some seriously messed up secrets about the city itself. Meanwhile, an AutoReiv technician named Vincent Law starts experiencing bizarre and disturbing events. When Re-l, Iggy, Vincent, and a young AutoReiv named Pino cross paths, they form an unlikely team determined to figure out what's really going on in Romdo. Their investigation pulls them toward mysterious beings called the Proxies—and the truth about what they actually are.
