Synopsis

Howl's castle is a ramshackle thing—all hissing steam, creaking joints, and billowing smoke—but it belongs to the wizard Howl, a guy famous for his magical talent and his reputation as a shameless flirt. In Sophie Hatter's small town, that's all anyone talks about. Sophie herself is the plain daughter of a hatmaker with no grand ambitions, content to just work in the family shop and get by. That changes when she gets caught up in trouble and Howl shows up to save her. The problem? The Witch of the Waste sees what happens and loses it. She's already got bad history with Howl, and this encounter is the last straw. In a jealous rage, she curses Sophie and transforms her into an old woman. Desperate to undo the curse, Sophie ends up moving into Howl's castle alongside a weird cast of characters—a powerful fire demon, a scarecrow that hops around, and others just as strange. Together, they get pulled into a dangerous journey as their kingdom descends into war. Sophie's got to find a way to break the curse while everything falls apart around them.
