Brian Nightraider, a reckless cop, gets fired after his dangerous behavior leads to his partner's death. Drowning in guilt, he's suddenly recruited by a shadowy UN outfit called the Marginal Service—a covert organization that deals with Borderlanders, aliens who look and act human and have been living peacefully among us. Things get complicated when a Borderlander terrorist cell starts flooding the streets with a drug called Confu. Since Borderlanders can regenerate and pass for human, tracking down the dealers isn't going to be simple. But the ragtag crew at the Marginal Service is stubborn enough to take on the job anyway, even as they uncover some surprising truths about who's actually a Borderlander in the first place.
