By 2050, Japan dominates the field through Daiwa Heavy Industries, but things shift dramatically when the technology begins augmenting human bodies. The blurring line between man and machine spooks the world enough that the U.N. bans all robotics research in 2067. Japan protests loudly but loses the vote, so they withdraw from international politics entirely, cutting themselves off from the rest of the world—though they still trade. Ten years pass in isolation. Then a string of strange incidents convinces the American tech police agency SWORD that Japan has been secretly developing banned robotics technology using a hidden network called RACE. SWORD sends a team of special agents to infiltrate Japan and find out what's really going on. Vexille, the group's most experienced operative, discovers the horrifying truth about what Japan has been hiding all this time.
