Synopsis

Matsunaga Gengo earned the nickname "The Fire-eating Bird" as Edo's most legendary firefighting samurai. After leaving the brigade for personal reasons, he gets recruited by the struggling Shinjo clan to lead their pathetic excuse for a fire department—broke, understaffed, and the laughing stock of the city. His wife Miyuki pushes him to take the job and rebuild the team from scratch. Gengo assembles a ragtag crew of oddball firefighters, and together they become known as the "Boro-Tobi-Gumi"—basically the ragged steeplejacks nobody takes seriously. But they're determined to save lives no matter what. Meanwhile, Edo is plagued by a string of mysterious arson attacks known as the "foxfires," adding another layer of danger to their work.
