Synopsis

Four astronauts in deep space discover their crewmate Makimura dead—and he'd left a note predicting his own murder. With their ship crippled and no time to process what's happened, they bail out in escape pods. The survivors immediately suspect Kizaki, who'd been feuding with Makimura over Nana Ichinomiya, the only woman on the crew. But then something impossible happens: Makimura's pod shows up on their sensors, trailing behind them, and won't respond to any signals. As they try to make sense of it all, the crew learns disturbing details about their supposedly dead teammate—including strange legends about the Phoenix, a mythical bird rumored to grant immortality. It's only after they crash on what appears to be an abandoned planet that they finally piece together what really happened to Makimura and why his pod is still out there. Set in a distant future, this story explores how ruthlessly humans will pursue their own desires when they stop caring about the cost.
