Synopsis

Willem Kmetsch sacrifices everything to fight a mysterious monster. He wins, but the victory comes at a cost—he ends up frozen solid in ice. While he's trapped there, terrifying creatures called Beasts surface and nearly wipe out humanity. When Willem finally thaws out 500 years later, he discovers he's the last of his kind. With the other surviving races, Willem retreats to floating islands in the sky, safe from the Beasts that prowl below. Life is pretty lonely, and he just scrapes by doing whatever work he can find. That changes when he takes a job as a caretaker for a weapons storehouse—or so he thinks. Turns out the "weapons" are actually young Leprechauns, a race that looks human but has zero regard for their own lives. They see themselves as nothing more than tools for war. One of them, Chtholly Nota Seniorious, is especially willing to throw her life away if it means stopping the Beasts and saving everyone. Willem ends up becoming a father figure to these kids. He cares for them deeply and does everything he can to support them. It's a strange turn of events for someone who once fought on the front lines—now all he can do is wait and worry whenever they're sent out to battle the monsters that destroyed his entire civilization.
